Location & Introduction
The beautiful villa known as 'Legenda' is situated in the rice fields just steps from the Indian Ocean at Berawa Beach on Bali's southwest coast. Completed in September 2006, the villa captivates with luxury, privacy and exemplary service. It is near the Canggu International Club.
This perfect location is close to every amenity guests might need, yet it presents a fascinating insight into the life of rural Bali. The culture of rice is one of Bali’s most ancient traditions.
Legenda surrounded on two sides by rice paddies, is in the center of that tradition. There are also glimpses of the Indian Ocean and on clear days, there is a spectacular view of Bali’s majestic mountains.
In 10 minutes guests can be in the center of busy Seminyak. This area presents an exciting nightlife, trendy boutiques, luxurious spas, and internationally acclaimed restaurants and clubs. The villa is 30 minutes from Denpasar International Airport.
Easily accessible sporting amenities include world-class surfing at the Berawa Beach surf break; and golfing at Nirwana Bali Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman and voted the number one golf course in Indonesia. For horse lovers, the Umalas Equestrian Centre is just a few kilometers away. Surf board and golf club rentals can be arranged.
Legenda was designed by the internationally acclaimed Balinese architect Popo Danes. He has been honored with numerous awards for his efforts in enriching Balinese contemporary architecture and preserving the heritage of both Bali and Indonesia. He has projects located throughout the Indonesian archipelago; in Malaysia; Thailand; the United States; and India. He is known for his sensitivity to nature, the environment and the culture within which he is working.
There is a wide choice of areas for dining and entertaining. Balconies and verandas have been positioned to maximize the panoramic views and the cooling tropical breezes. Guests will be soothed by the rhythmic sounds of breaking ocean waves.
Living Room & Dining Room
Welcoming guests with its generous size and openness, the Living Room offers a sweeping vista of the pool, gardens and adjacent rice fields. A stairway leads down to the Dining Room, located on ground level next to the pool terrace. The room is furnished with a three meter long table which seats ten, a sideboard and a pair of 24-light standing candelabra. The ceiling features cove lighting and specialty lighting for the stunning art works witch adorn the walls. Folding glass doors offer guests cool alfresco dining and the ambience is enhanced by water sounds emanating from adjacent ornamental ponds, water spouts and bubbling urns.

The Master Suite is accessed by an elevated covered walkway on the Living Room level, bridging a water garden below. A sliding door opens to reveal the air-conditioned Office/Sitting Room, complete with merbau wood floor, antique desk, chairs and original artwork on the walls.
The Master Bedroom is entered via another sliding door, where a splendid king-size, canopied bed, dressed in white linens and mosquito netting sits in the center of the room like a throne. It features intricate carving and is a copy of an old Madurese royal bed. This air-conditioned room is equipped with a flat screen TV and DVD player. The walls are decorated in a cool shade of blue. There is a vaulted wood ceiling and folding glass doors that open onto a wide wrap around slate-floored balcony. This allows guests to choose open air sleeping instead of air-conditioning if they wish.

The ensuite air-conditioned bathroom is luxurious. It boasts a cream-colored marble floor, an abundance of wall mirrors, and an oval-shaped terrazzo bathtub for two and twin marble washbasins. A toilet cubicle and a separate shower are each entered via frosted glass doors. The powerful overhead rain-shower is complemented by a handheld shower. There is a large closet and dressing area with built-in wardrobes, drawers and plenty of storage space. A safe deposit box and mini-bar fridge are located in the dressing area.
The air-conditioned Guest Suite is located on the Ground level. The Sitting Room/Children’s Bedroom is entered through a sliding door leading off a covered walkway beside a beautiful water garden. There is an L-shaped sofa that can be converted into twin beds, making this suite ideal for a family. The bedroom is entered through a sliding wooden door which separates it from the sitting room, or through doors opening onto the Terrace and Garden. This generous bedroom is furnished with antiques and artwork, an Oriental rug and a king-size, four-poster steel bed. The bed has elaborate white mosquito netting which allows guests to sleep with the folding glass doors open to the rice field views, or to choose the option of air-conditioning.
The Guest Suite is equipped with a safe deposit box and a mini-bar fridge located in the dressing area. A beautiful old cabinet holds a TV and DVD player. The dressing area and ensuite bathroom follow the same layout and have the same amenities as the Master Suite. The air-conditioned bathroom has a marble floor and a dressing area with fitted wardrobes, huge mirrors, and louvered doors which hide a safe deposit box and mini bar fridge. Double marble topped vanity units support large marble washbowls with teak cupboards and shelves underneath.
The toilet cubicle and separate shower are each located behind frosted glass doors. The powerful rain-shower is complemented by a handheld shower. Glass doors lead to an open air bathroom romantically lit by unique wall lamps.
An oversize bathtub is sheltered under the roof eaves, and there is an outdoor rain-shower for moonlit bathing. A glass wall of sliding doors opens onto a white Palimanan stone terrace. There is a marble topped iron table and chairs for private dining with garden and pool views.
Main Garden, Swimming Pool, and Relaxation Pavilion
The 16 x 3 meter, blue slate tiled swimming pool has a waterfall at one end, two infinity edges, and is anchored by a Pendopo, used as a Relaxation Pavilion. This ancient structure is the core of a 150-year old wooden Joglo house from Java. It showcases ornate hand-carvings and robust columns, and was constructed using traditional tongue and groove techniques without the use of any nails or bolts. Furnished with a rustic table, a deeply cushioned rattan sofa and chairs, this raised pavilion, with its antique terracotta tiled floor is another delightful area for dining, entertaining and relaxing. There is a granite topped bar for serving at the back of the structure. The white Palimanan stone pool terrace is shaded by sweet-scented white frangipani trees; there are 6 sun beds and two umbrellas.
The expansive gardens are dotted with palm trees and white-flowering shrubbery and trees. Open to the rice fields on one side with a view unbroken by walls or fences, the property expands its borders. Water is a predominant element in the spiritual landscape of Bali. This is reflected throughout the property, but especially in the enchanting water garden between the bedroom pavilion and the Living/Dining pavilion. The pond features white lotus and bulrushes, and is planted with white orchids and a frangipani tree on an island. Two serene Buddha statues sit in stone caves against a backdrop of flowing water to complete this beautiful water feature.
Free Standing Two Bedroom Guest Villa, Pool and Garden
The free standing Two Bedroom Guest Villa, with its own pool and Living and Dining Pavilion, is across the driveway from the main villa with its own Balinese entrance gate. Both bedrooms are air-conditioned and each features a soaring ceiling and marble floors. This charming villa was designed and completed in 2008 to complement Legenda and add two more bedrooms to the property. It can serve as an addition to the three bedroom villa, or can stand alone as a separate two bedroom villa.
The Guest Villa’s Master Bedroom features a king sized teak canopy bed, with pristine white linens and romantic mosquito netting. The room is furnished with an LCD flat screen TV with DVD player; a pair of lounge chairs and a writing table. Sliding glass doors look out to the garden and pool.
